The Buying Process
In general, this is the process for buying one or more of my chinchillas:
- Fill out Questionnaire (see link)
- Be approved.
- Pay deposit.
- Make weekly contact.
- Pick up chinchilla(s).
I reserve the right to refuse to sell to anyone.
Following approval, you may pay a deposit. The deposit ensures your interest and holds your chinchilla until she/he is ready to move to a new home. You do not have to pay a deposit, but I cannot guarantee the availability of the chinchilla without one. I will only hold chins for one week without a deposit.
Unless otherwise stated, the deposit is half the cost of the chinchilla or $75 (whichever is lowest). A deposit can be paid with PayPal or check, providing there is enough time for the payment to clear before pick up. USPS Money Orders are also acceptable.
I will not accept a deposit for a kit until the kit is 2-3 weeks-old. Unless otherwise discussed, a deposit will hold a kit for a maximum of 2 weeks after weaning. After that, I ask that you pay a $5 per week boarding fee. Kits are typically weaned at 8-weeks-old and held for at least one more week to ensure that they are doing well.
Deposits are non-refundable, except in special circumstances:
- If something happens to the chinchilla while here (injury, illness, or death), the buyer is given the option of transferring the deposit to another chinchilla or taking a full refund of the deposit.
I will not be held responsible for lost payment (with one exception)! Please notify me before sending your deposit so I can let you know when it arrives. Do NOT send any money without approval.
I request that, after sale has been discussed and a deposit sent, the buyer contact me at least once a week. Contact can be a request for an update, pictures, a question, or simply a 'hello.' This lets me know that you are still interested and haven't disappeared off the face of the earth.
The following payment methods are acceptable. The chinchilla(s) will not leave my possession until payment has been received in full. (This means checks and PayPal must have cleared.) You are welcome to pay the full payment in cash when you pick up the chin. Once again, I will only hold a chin for one week without a deposit.
I prefer not to take full payment all at once for a kit that has not yet been weaned.

Pick up or Delivery
You are welcome to come pick up your chin at our home and sometimes we might be able to arrange transport. All visits must be arranged ahead of time.
Shipping At this time I prefer local sales. I will gladly meet with in an hour of Spokane in exchange for a gas fee. This must be arranged well in advance. With the exception of Spokane, I will not deliver chinchillas to any location without first receiving a deposit. The gas fee may be split among multiple parties.
At the time you receive your chinchilla, you should also receive a pedigree, information packet and food.
Twilight Chinchillas is a small hobby breeder, which means we can spend more time with the kits. We start socializing kits when they are born. Some of our kits like to be cuddled with, some don't- it depends on the chinchilla. If you feel that you want a pet that cuddles with you all the time, I suggest you do more research before choosing a chinchilla as a pet. We do not recommend chinchillas as pets for small children, for a number of reasons. They are nocturnal, and most young children go to bed an hour after the chins are active. Most chinchillas don't like to be cuddled with, and young children tend to want to hold their new friend.
By signing this agreement, you understand and agree to the following:
No animal will go home with out this agreement!
-That you are giving the animal a forever home. If something should happen, and you can no longer keep the animal,Twilight Chinchillas has the first option to take it back. We may refund 50% of what you paid when buying from us under some circumstances, but not all.
-All chinchillas are healthy when sold, but we can not guarantee that genetic problems won't occur. All of our breeder chins are purchased from good breeders, and we do not breed any chin with a known genetic health issue. We do give a one year guarantee against genetic issues if the animal was born here. When you purchase a chinchilla from us, you must have a chin knowledgeable vet on hand. You are responsible for any vet costs that you may have after you purchase/pick up the chinchilla. If you have any concern regarding your chin’s health you have 2 weeks (14 days) to have the chin seen by a vet. If the vet finds a health problem with the chin, and signs a statement saying that this happened while the chin was in our care, you can do one of two things.
1) Keep the chinchilla, and find treatment for it or
2) Return the chinchilla to Twilight Chinchillas, we will give you another chinchilla of equal or greater value. We will not give you another chinchilla or refund your money if a vet does not see the chinchilla with in 14 days.
__The chinchilla may be breeding quality (has breeding quality lines and a pedigree), but we can not guarantee the chinchilla will be proper weight or breeding/show quality unless already shown or bred by us. For females, they should be at least 600 grams, and at least 12 months old. For males, they should be at least 500 grams but the bigger the better. All potential breeding chins come with pedigrees, but if/when you want to start breeding, please be responsible and make sure he is the proper weight, age, and quality.
__This chinchilla is not to be bred. Most chins come with a pedigree, and will come with one if they have it. However, it states on the pedigree that this chin is not to be bred. Any chinchilla listed as pet quality is not to be bred. Breeding this chin could result in deformed, sick or dead kits, and possibly a sick or dead mother chin.
